José Murani Visual Arts Scholarship

 

Each year the Coalition of Hispanic Artists offers one art scholarship in the amount of $500 to an academic, secondary-school student in his/her Senior year who has been accepted in an accredited institution of higher learning with a major in the Visual Arts field. The award is determined on a competitive basis and requires the submission of an art portfolio, artist’s statement, and letter of recommendation, official High School transcript, and letter of acceptance by an accredited institution of higher learning.

 

All High School Seniors are encouraged to apply.

 

CRITERIA

 

  1. Applicant must be a Florida resident.
  2. Applicant must be a graduating High School Senior.
  3. Applicant must be accepted at a full-time Florida College or University freshman in the coming academic year with an interest or intent to pursue a visual arts field.
  4. Applicant must demonstrate scholarship consistent with capacity and circumstances as demonstrated in the required submissions with the application as noted below.
  5. The Scholarship Funds will   be  sent   directly  to   the   accredited College or University  that   the  recipient   student has  been 

 

The Scholarship Committee of The Coalition of Hispanic Artists will rank each applicant based on artistic merit, financial need, and residency in the Tampa Bay Area.

 

 

APPLICATION PROCESS

(THE STUDENT MUST SUBMITT THE FOLLOWING)

 

APPLICATION  FORM

Should be typed or legibly written. Any incomplete or illegible forms WILL NOT be processed. The application form below may be replicated, but it must reflect all items requested.

 

PORTFOLIO
The portfolio should include 10 images in CD-Rom format, Microsoft compatible (i.e., digital portfolio on CD). CD is to be labeled with the Student’s name.  Each image needs to be described on a sheet of paper and labeled with the Student’s name, title of each piece, medium, dimensions, and year completed. Portfolio artwork may include drawings, painting, photography, ceramics, digital works, mixed media, printmaking, sculptures, etcetera. Self-portraits, still lives and figure studies are recommended. Portfolios may include coursework or artwork created outside of art courses, preferably within the past two years.  If the CD portfolio is to be returned, the student is to provide a self-addressed, stamped envelope or label.

 

 

 

 

 

 

STUDENT’S  STATEMENT
The Student’s Statement should include  reasons for pursing a field in the visual arts, identify three (3) artists and/or works by artist  you admire, and your academic and artistic goals. Your statement should be 300-500 words (double spaced) in length. Be sure to include at the top of your statement, your name, grade, and name of your current school and city.

 

LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION
A letter of recommendation from a current or past teacher, administrator, or community leader that is familiar with your artistic qualifications.

 

TRANSCRIPT(S) & ACCEPTANCE LETTER
A complete, official High School transcript(s) and acceptance letter from an accredited institution of higher learning must be submitted with the application. The High School transcript must show the cumulative grade point average and class rank.

 

DEADLINE

Deadline to submit applications is April 30th 2016.  Applications postmarked after this date will not be considered.

The following statement is to be submitted, and incorporated by reference, with your application.

Notice:  Should a chosen recipient of the scholarship fail to attend an accredited College or University the following fall term, and then the applicant who was judged as an alternate will receive the award if he or she has enrolled in an accredited College or University.
